Ian McDowell combines old techniques with modern ingenuity to create beautiful dishes for everyday use. Working mainly with porcelain and stoneware clays, he utilizes iron and other metal oxides along with locally-harvested, wild-crafted ceramic materials to form unique glazes, inspired by geological processes and skilled craftsmanship both old and new. Once the materials are obtained and prepared, the process spans many weeks from when the clay is initially formed to when it has finally cooled down from the final firing. Everything is done by Ian with the help of his wife, Liz, at their home just east of Austin, Texas.
